GREENSBORO, N.C. - Men's Lacrosse Scholar-Athlete of the Year Ben Rubeor of Virginia leads the 2008 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic team as announced today by Commissioner John D. Swofford.

Rubeor, a senior English major, is a three-time ACC All-Academic team selection and a first-team selection to the 2008 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District III At-Large team as voted on by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

The Towson, Md, native, was also named a Scholar All-American by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA). This is the fourth year in a row Virginia has had at least one player named to this team, the longest active streak among Division I schools.

A finalist for the Tewaaraton Trophy as the nation's top player this season, Rubeor was a second-team All-American after leading the team with 38 goals. He finished his career ranked fifth in Virginia history with 136 goals and sixth in total points (212) en route to the Long Island Lizards selecting him in the second round of the 2008 Major League Lacrosse draft.

Six other men's lacrosse student-athletes, who earned All-Conference honors this past season, secured spots on the 2008 All-ACC Academic squad, while eighteen (18) were repeat honorees from last year's All-ACC Academic team.

To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his academic career.

Joining Rubeor as student-athletes who earned both All-Academic and All-Conference honors in 2008 are Duke's Matt Danowski, Tony McDevitt, Max Quinzani, Maryland's Jeff Reynolds, North Carolina's Grant Zimmerman, and Virginia's Danny Glading.

Duke placed fifteen (15) student-athletes on the team for the second consecutive year. Virginia followed with six honorees, while North Carolina and Maryland had four and five, respectively.
