July 17, 2008
GREENSBORO, N.C. - Women's Lacrosse Scholar-Athlete of the Year Carolyn Davis of Duke leads the 2008 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic team as announced today by Commissioner John D. Swofford. Davis, a junior Psychology major, is a three-time ACC All-Academic team selection and a first-team All-American from the Womenslax.com, IWLCA/U.S. Lacrosse and Inside Lacrosse. She earned a spot on the 2008 NCAA All-Tournament team for her efforts in the Blue Devils' national semifinal game. Davis was outstanding for the Blue Devils this season, especially considering she was cleared to play just a week before the season opener after spending the off-season rehabilitating from a torn ACL that she suffered in the final game of the 2007 campaign. The native of Skaneateles, N.Y., led Duke with 61 goals, 76 points and 129 shots. Davis finished fourth in the Duke record book for goals in a season and seventh for season points. She ranks ninth in Division I for active career goal leaders (not including the NCAA class of 2008). Eleven (11) other players who earned All-Conference honors this past season secured spots on the 2008 All-ACC Academic Women's Lacrosse team. To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during her academic career. Thirteen (13) student-athletes were repeat honorees from the 2007 All-ACC Academic team, while Boston College`s Emily Hannigan, Maryland's Kathryn Princiotto, and North Carolina's Erica LaGrow have been tabbed All-ACC Academic team members for the third-straight year. Duke placed nine student-athletes on the team for the third consecutive year. Maryland and North Carolina followed with six honorees apiece, while Virginia and Virginia Tech each had four. Rounding out the 32-member team with three selections was Boston College. Name, Class, Major, School & Repeat honoree (2006 & 2007)
